World Diabetes Day

Today is World Diabetes Day. Awareness is being spread all over the world in order to help people live their healthiest life with Type 1 Diabetes and to help or even prevent Type 2 Diabetes. They are two very different problems.

Diabetes is the leading cause of blindness, amputation, heart disease, kidney failure, and early death. Early detection is the best option. 463 Million people around the world have Diabetes.

Type 1 Diabetes occurs when the pancreas no longer is able to produce insulin. The person with Type 1 must take insulin or they will die. Type 1 is an Auto-Immune reaction.

Type 2 Diabetes occurs usually with adults, and is preventable 50% of the time. It occurs when the body becomes insulin resistant or deficient.

If you want to find out your risk for developing Type 2 Diabetes, I encourage you to take this quiz. I’m at high risk and currently am doing many things (doctor instructed) to improve my risk level.
