What Helps Your Itchy Skin?

Having severely dry skin from Sjogren’s, itchy, rashy spots from CTCL, and sensitive skin from MCAS, means that I have a very hard time finding skin care products. Over the years I’ve tried dozens of lotions, creams, and soaps. Most of them caused me to itch. Some caused hives. So, a lot of products have ended up in the trash.

I learned long ago to find products that were fragrance free. But, even the label “fragrance free” doesn’t mean that I won’t have a reaction to it. In fact, my body is so weird that I can react to most things in the world.

In the last year I have found a few products that really don’t cause me to itch and get rashes. I’m still amazed that I can use them long-term and enjoy having no reactions. I love sharing them with you, in case you have the same skin sensitivities that I have. Maybe they will work for you, too.

Laundry Soap

I’ve tried all the various Free-n-Clear brands and off-brands. I still itched. I’ve tried a few organic laundry soaps. I still itched. Last year I tried the Grove Lavender & Rosemary Powder Packs. Using them has stopped all my itchy skin. The scent comes from Lavender Essential Oils and it is very mild. Our laundry gets very clean and doesn’t have a flowery smell….just clean.

Lotions

I’m the type who would use flowery-scented lotions if I could. I would love to buy everything from Bath & Body Works, but it’s impossible. I would break out in hives. So, I’ve had to limit myself to using doctor-recommended lotion. I only use Eucerin, Intensive Repair Lotion, Fragrance Free. It’s not fancy or anything, but it works.

I now have to follow my doctor’s suggestion: Cover myself with Eucerin while I’m still damp from the shower. When your skin becomes so flakey that it looks like a cheese grater was pressed against it, you do what you have to do.

Shower Soap

Again, I once enjoyed all the wonderful scents available in shower gels. I now have resorted to trying all the fragrance free gels and soaps. Some were good for dry skin, but I still had itchy skin. I had constant tears where I had scratched myself to the point of bleeding while I was asleep.

I finally found a great shower soap that leaves my skin comfortable, with no itching. Oxyfresh Heavenly Face and Body Wash is my new favorite. I was given my first bottle as part of a review and was so pleasantly surprised. I was given the Heavenly scent, but they also have an Unscented version, too. This body wash really does smell heavenly and now I don’t claw my skin raw.

Shaving Soap

One more product seems like a splurge, but for me, it’s been a lifesaver. When I shave my legs I’ve always had bumps like razor-burn. I tried all the different shaving creams and gels. Nothing helped. I got so sick of all the inflamed pores on my lower legs. It looked hideous.

I found Dr. Bronner’s Shaving Soap in Lavender and was a little worried about trying it. I thought the Lavender might irritate the hair follicles and burn. But, this stuff is miraculous! I don’t know how it makes such a difference, but I can shave with no problem at all. All I get is soft skin. The lavender scent is very strong, but rinses away. It’s all organic and you’ll love the ingredients!

I don’t know if you’re looking for these types of things, but they are truly great for me. What is your favorite skin care list of favorites? Or, are you still looking? I would love to hear what works for you.
