Recovery: Week 3

I'm a little behind with this series. It's hard to remember all the good and bad experiences I've had in the last week. I saw my surgeon last week and he was very pleased with the healing progress.

He removed the stitches and told me to start wearing the boot again. He said that on the 9th he wants me to start putting 25% of weight bearing on that foot. I had no idea how hard that was going to be.

When the physical therapist came on Thursday, I told him about this new experience. So, the goal for the session was to pull up to the walker from a seated position, holding my repaired foot off the ground.

Having you ever tried that? I think it would have been tricky twenty years ago. When I tried to pull up, I needed a little assistance from the PT and Hubby. As I finally stood up, my right foot was in severe pain and was much too weak to hold me up.

The walker had forearm holders, so that I didn't have to hold myself up with my AVN-struggling wrists. My upper body strength is good, and everyone who has worked with me are pretty surprised.

With all the surgery issues, my mind wasn't on the painful right ankle. The pain is on the bottom of the fibula and shoots up the leg. The pain was something I could definitely endure. I would do almost anything to get back on my feet.

It wasn't the pain that stopped me, but the leg could not stand. There was no way. I really hope to get the x-ray done soon. Each day that I'm not getting therapy is a day that could make it even harder to recover and regain a full ability to walk.

I wish that I had remembered to ask my surgeon about the leg while I was at my post-surgery appointment. I could have gotten the x-ray that very day, because the x-ray machine is just down the hall from where I was. I was too focused on the left leg.

I'm praying that I can get the x-ray done today or tomorrow. If it's a sprain or fracture, it needs treatment. I just hope it's not AVN. I've already got that in two wrists. The 3-D printed talus bone fits perfectly in the vacated spot. It feels good to move it straight up-and-down and feeling that it's comfortable.

Hoping to walk again soon.
